A Salute: Black & Veatch to Host Veterans Day Celebration on Nov. 6

Free public, patriotic showcase to include helicopter landings, flyover, ground displays

Reflecting its longstanding, unwavering support of U.S. military veterans, Black & Veatch is joining the city of Overland Park and other local community sponsors in hosting a public, patriotic Veterans Day observance on Wednesday, Nov. 6, on the campus of Black & Veatch’s global headquarters at 11401 Lamar Ave. in Overland Park.

Among the Kansas City area’s largest Veterans Day events, the free showcase from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. marks the 17th consecutive year that Black & Veatch has sponsored the observance to honor service members, veterans and their families. Immediately after opening remarks and a rendition of the national anthem, a flyover will give way to landings of CH-47 Chinook and UH-60 Black Hawk military helicopters — weather permitting — to be displayed along with other military and public safety equipment.

The event also will include a BeechNutz formation team flyover, patriotic music and dozens of military and community ground displays, including an Air Force gaming trailer, an Overland Park Fire Department ladder truck, an Overland Park Police Department mobile command post, a bomb truck, SWAT truck, a police canine handler and more.

“Each year, it’s our honor to host this celebration of our veterans and the sacrifices they continue to make to ensure our freedoms and all that they do to make the world a better place,” Black & Veatch Chairman and CEO Mario Azar said. He added that “veterans have helped shape the culture of our company for much of its 109-year history, and we owe them a debt of gratitude.”

“On Veterans Day, we extend our deepest gratitude to the veterans of Overland Park. Your courage, sacrifice and service have shaped our community and protected our freedoms,” Overland Park Mayor Curt Skoog said. “This celebration is a small way to honor the immense contributions veterans have made. I am again grateful to Black & Veatch for helping us honor veterans and their families.”

In addition to its deep support for veterans and their families, Black & Veatch has been providing resilient, worldwide infrastructure solutions to the U.S. government for more than a century. Its federal services group provides expertise in mission-critical facilities, civil works, construction, design-build contracting, environmental services, integrated services, master planning and security.
