Our commitment

At Black & Veatch, sustainability is embedded in how we design, build and deliver infrastructure that supports modern life. As a 100% employee-owned company, we help clients address growing demand for energy, water and digital infrastructure while advancing solutions that are reliable, resilient, responsible, affordable and secure. Our sustainability strategy is organized around three interconnected pillars: Corporate, Client and Community, reflecting how we create value within our operations, through our project work and across the communities we serve.

Committing to corporate sustainability

Black & Veatch is committed to reducing its environmental footprint while fostering a safe, ethical and engaging workplace. In 2025, we completed our first Scope 3 greenhouse gas inventory across all applicable categories, achieved third-party assurance of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, and continued progress toward our goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 by 2050. We matched 100% of electricity consumption at U.S. offices with renewable energy, expanded sustainability training to more than 5,700 employee-owners and maintained industry-leading safety performance with a total recordable incident rate approximately 86% below the U.S. industry average. Through strong governance, ethics, talent development and environmental stewardship, we are building a culture that empowers employees to create lasting impact.

Delivering sustainable infrastructure for clients

Our greatest opportunity to advance sustainability is through the infrastructure solutions we deliver for clients worldwide. In 2025, 58% of company revenues came from infrastructure that improves sustainability outcomes. Black & Veatch helped clients advance renewable energy, battery storage, water reuse, climate resilience, nature-based solutions and grid modernization. Our “Sustainable by Design” approach integrates sustainability into planning, design and construction, helping clients improve environmental performance, reduce risk and strengthen long-term resilience. With more than 1,000 environmental projects supported and more than 250 water reclamation and reuse projects completed, we continue helping communities and industries navigate the energy transition, secure water resources and prepare for a more resilient future.

Strengthening communities and advancing innovation

Creating a more sustainable future requires collaboration. Through the Black & Veatch Foundation, employee volunteerism, responsible supply chain engagement and innovation programs, we work to strengthen the communities where we live and work. In 2025, the foundation distributed more than $1.24 million in grants, and employee-owners contributed more than $1.8 million through the annual United Way campaign. Our digital inclusion programs reached 628 participants, while Black & Veatch employees supported environmental stewardship, workforce development and community resilience initiatives around the world. Through the award-winning BV IgniteX® startup accelerator, we also help scale emerging technologies in areas such as climate analytics, artificial intelligence, robotics and sustainable infrastructure, accelerating solutions that can create lasting environmental and social value.

While each pillar serves a distinct purpose, their greatest impact comes from working together. Together, our Corporate, Client and Community sustainability pillars help ensure that the infrastructure essential to modern life remains reliable, resilient, responsible, affordable and secure for generations to come.
