Our Sustainability and Citizenship principles help us enrich the communities in which we work and live, by meeting the needs of the present generation while improving the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Our Foundation provides a way for the company and its professionals to support charitable organizations and programs that create significant, measurable impact aligned to the company’s Mission and Values in communities where we live and work. Since the BV Foundation was created, we have donated more than $20 million in grants and matching gifts.

Christmas in October
Christmas in October (CIO) is a volunteer organization that rehabilitates houses with the help of local organizations, corporations and individuals. It's goal is to rehabilitate hundreds of houses every year before winter. Since 1984, CIO has helped restore more than 7,500 homes in the Greater Kansas City area to provide the gift of warmth, safety and dignity for needy families, the elderly, the disabled and veterans.

Engineers Without Borders
Black & Veatch has supported Engineers Without Borders (EWB) programs throughout the world, including the UK, the United States and India since 2008. Engineers Without Borders is an international organization that facilitates engineers, non-engineers and students across the globe to implement projects that improve the quality of life in developing communities.
United Way
United Way supports thousands of community groups and encourages fundraising to increase their reach. The Black & Veatch Foundation and our professionals give time and money every year to support United Way. Black & Veatch has supported United Way for more than 35 years and, during that time, our professionals have raised more than $28 million.
Building Community Resilience
When disaster strikes communities where Black & Veatch professionals live and work, it affects us all. That’s why the Foundation partners with groups including the American Red Cross, Heart to Heart International, RedR, Water for People, and WaterAid to respond in times of crisis, providing funding for clean water, shelter, and emergency supplies around the world to our friends and neighbors.
Kansas City Regional COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund
Black & Veatch is a founding contributor to the Kansas City Regional COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund. The Kansas City Regional COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund provides grants to nonprofit organizations that have experience supporting impacted communities – particularly those that are disproportionately affected by this global pandemic and its economic consequences.
Museum at Prairiefire and KC Urban Advantage (KCUA)
Black & Veatch has a multiyear commitment to the Museum at Prairiefire and their Urban Advantage Program. The Museum engages visitors and area students with world-class exhibitions, important programming and significant educational opportunities. The purpose of the KC Urban Advantage (KCUA) is to help break the cycle of poverty in Kansas City by increasing confidence and ability in academic achievement for underserved children.
Greenlight for Girls
Black & Veatch contributed to impact the lives of young girls who may not have the resources to learn and develop themselves in science and technology.
Scholarship Program
The Black & Veatch Foundation is underwriting targeted scholarships at Pittsburg (Kansas) State University, the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Johnson County (Kansas) Community College and Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Missouri. The schools were chosen both for their interest and track record in delivering qualified, aspiring design technology and technician candidates who can support the company’s global transmission needs.

The annual golf event and company donations have now surpassed $4.1 million since its inception. The Center, dedicated to being the leading global referral center for the diagnosis, molecular understanding and treatment of inherited childhood diseases, is the first of its kind.

With the search for clean energy solutions a major focus of STEM education programs, Black & Veatch has teamed with local Kansas City-based organizations to fund and complete a new solar canopy installation at Operation Breakthrough’s new Ignition Lab. The Ignition Lab will help inspire the next generation of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) students, advance clean energy and provide onsite zero-carbon solar generation. The Black & Veatch Foundation – the company’s charitable giving arm – was among the project's funders while Black & Veatch also engaged as the solar project design lead and videographer.
