Black & Veatch to Share Its Technology and Execution Expertise at Prominent Africa Power Conference

Black & Veatch experts will highlight challenges and propose solutions to help address Africa’s present and future energy needs during Power-Gen Africa, located in Cape Town from March 17-19.

Co-located with DistribuTECH Africa, Power-Gen Africa provides a platform for global companies across the energy sector to meet and share information for Africa’s energy security well into the future.Black & Veatch thought leaders will share their many years of personal experiences, company knowledge, and recommendations, positively contributing to the advancement of Africa’s capacity planning and building efforts and the achievement of environmental objectives.

Dave HarrisEmissions Control. Continued global emphasis on clean air and reducing emissions associated with electricity generation is leading many facility operators in sub-Saharan Africa to consider air quality control system retrofit projects. Black & Veatch’s Dave Harris will present an overview of commonly applied technologies, key issues unique to their application in the region and available solutions for consideration. Tom O'brienOvercoming Project Management Challenges. Power utilities require the professional experience and skills needed to support the push for large infrastructure projects in sub-Saharan Africa. Defining appropriately structured programs, based on best practices for executing design and construction of new power facilities, poses additional challenges. Black & Veatch’s Tom O’Brien will assess the key issues and provide solutions for the successful and timely completion of large capital projects. Sean TileyA Wind Powered Africa. Independent power producers must address diverse challenges to successfully develop and bring wind energy projects to market. Success is best achieved with a holistic approach, with particular focus on executing projects with life cycle performance and cost in mind. Black & Veatch’s Sean Tilley will discuss substantive and sustainable techniques for the planning and execution of wind energy projects in Africa. Dave LeligdonCapacity Building, Training & Development. Rapid population growth, economic development and electric power shortages require the development and implementation of large capacity building power projects in Africa. Moreover, world-class execution methodologies and experienced execution resources are needed for successful project implementation. Well-developed and supported Skills and Knowledge Transfer (SKT) programs play a vital role in large project execution and equipping local workers for long-term success. Black & Veatch’s Dave Leligdon will discuss effective SKT programs and their long-term benefits. Session 4, T1S4A, 18 March, 9.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m.
