New vice president will lead company’s interaction with trade unions, key industry groups
Looking to bolster its steady collaboration with union contract workers, BVCI has turned to employee relations veteran Scean Cherry as its new Vice President of Labor Relations. In his new role for BVCI, Cherry will be the primary interface with local, regional and international representatives of building and construction trade unions while engaging key industry groups. BVCI is a wholly owned subsidiary of global infrastructure solutions provider Black & Veatch
Cherry has more than a quarter century of professional experience in various industries, including 17 years of expertise in the industrial construction and maintenance sectors managing and leading labor relations programs for prominent contractors.
“Scean’s 25 years of experience in industries including power generation, maintenance and construction provides the ideal background to help us grow our direct hire union construction portfolio,” said Shelby Barbier, BVCI’s senior vice president. “His expertise in labor relations, contract negotiations and risk management as well as tremendous experience managing diverse and inclusive teams will be critical to strengthening our longstanding relationships with trade unions and delivering projects that support our client’s needs.”
“I’ve always been a practitioner of and believer in the three C’s of labor relations – communication, clarity and collaboration – and look forward to further applying that mindset to address the challenges and opportunities of today’s construction sector,” Cherry said. “Around the world, Black & Veatch has been at the forefront of making people’s lives better through the power, water and telecommunications infrastructure it builds, and I welcome this opportunity to help continue that success.”
Cherry previously has been the lead labor relations professional for GE Power, APM+APCom, Babcock & Wilcox Construction, Day & Zimmermann NPS and Allied Power Services. He also has served on key industry labor-management committees and employer organizations, including on the board of directors for the North American Contractors Association, Associated Maintenance Contractors, the Association of Union Constructors and the National Maintenance Agreement Policy Committee. He has been co-chairman of the Exelon GPPMA Powerhouse National Committee. He also has served on the joint administrative committee for the National Construction Agreement.
