Company’s diversity and inclusion efforts are critical to creating a connected, successful workforce
Black & Veatch’s commitment to workplace diversity puts it among the world’s engineering and construction leaders who understand the social and financial importance of enabling a diverse and inclusive workforce. Now, Forbes has honored Black & Veatch by placing the company on its annual list of Best Employers for Diversity.
Presented by Forbes and Statista Inc., a world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider, the 2020 list is the result of an anonymous online survey taken by more than 60,000 employees working for firms or institutions that employ 1,000 or more people. The following parameters were considered in the study: age, gender equality, ethnicity, physical ability, LBGTQA+ and general diversity. Additionally, an index of objective and publicly available diversity KPIs were considered. Out of the tens of thousands of qualified organizations in the United States, 500 companies earned this distinction.
“Companies are more successful when a diverse workforce brings its varied backgrounds and problem-solving talents to the table,” said Black & Veatch Chief Human Resource Officer Stephanie Hasenbos-Case. “And we must understand that diversity by itself does not ensure success. Without inclusion, you are left with a revolving door of talent that will put you behind. Inclusion at Black & Veatch is about respecting and appreciating each individual where they feel involved, respected, valued and connected.”
Black & Veatch CEO Steve Edwards in 2019 joined the largest CEO-driven business commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in the workplace. His signature on the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ pledge further cemented the company’s commitment to nurturing a trusting workplace that values inclusiveness, enables difficult conversations about diversity and inclusion, expands education about unconscious bias and examines both best and unsuccessful practices aimed at creating an inclusive work environment.
That same year, Black & Veatch was named winner of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s “Champion of Diversity” award. The company also received a 100 percent score from the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index – a benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices pertinent to LGBTQ employees.
