Regulator Awards Renewable Electricity Audits to Black & Veatch

Nationwide technical audits encompass the full spectrum of renewable electricity generation technologies

UK energy regulator OFGEM has awarded its latest Renewable Electricity Generator Audits contract to Black & Veatch.

During the next 18 months Black & Veatch’s renewable energy experts will assess hundreds of renewable electricity generation sites receiving Renewable Obligation (RO) or Feed in Tariff (FIT) income; to ensure the sites are compliant with their relevant scheme requirements.

“The assessments cover all forms of renewable electricity generation in the UK: onshore and offshore wind, solar, biomass/biofuels, and includes off-grid sites as well as sites with energy storage. The depth, and distribution, of our UK renewables expertise makes us ideally suited to completing this diverse range of technical audits,” commented Robbie Gibson, Black & Veatch’s new director for renewable energy in the UK.

As the UK continues to reduce coal and gas generation capacity, developing an ecosystem to foster viable renewable energy generation is vital. Ensuring that the RO and FIT schemes are functioning properly is central to this strategy – which is why the Renewable Electricity Generator Audits are important. Black & Veatch has been entrusted to deliver more than 900 audits for the last six years; the latest round is likely to encompass more than 500 sites throughout the UK.

“Winning the latest Renewable Electricity Generator Audits contract demonstrates continued confidence in our capabilities across the renewable energy spectrum. Among the areas we see growing in significance are helping clients optimise performance of existing wind and solar assets,” added Gibson.

Editor's Notes:

  • Globally, Black & Veatch has supported the development of 25 gigawatts (GW) of solar energy and 26 GW of wind energy.
  • Black & Veatch and MWH joint venture MBV Energy Recovery recently completed the design/build contract for a 21.5 MW (megawatts) waste-to-energy renewable energy plant at Ince Park, Cheshire.
