Independent Director
Randy Woelfel joined the Black & Veatch Board in 2013. He is also a Director of Westlake Chemical Partners LP.
Woelfel was the Chief Executive Officer and a Director of NOVA Chemicals from 2009 to 2014. He has 38 years of extensive industry experience, beginning his career with Shell Oil Company in 1977. While at Shell Oil, he was a key member of the teams that helped create Montell and subsequently Basell Polyolefins — today part of Lyondell Basell. He held the positions of President, Basell International, and President, Basell North America.
Before joining NOVA Chemicals, he was Managing Director of Energy for the Houston Technology Center, Texas' largest incubator and accelerator for emerging technology companies; and President of Cereplast, Inc, a bioplastics developer.
During his 14 years of international management experience, he served as a board member of numerous polyolefin-related public and private companies in South America, the Middle East and Asia. He also served two terms as a Director of the American Chemistry Council, America's oldest trade association of its kind, representing companies in the field of chemistry.
Woelfel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Rice University and a Master’s in Management from MIT's Sloan School of Management.
