Black & Veatch Provides Engineering, Procurement and Program Management Services for Ammonia Plant Expansions

Project Name
Enid Ammonia Plant Expansion Projects
Location
Oklahoma, United States
Client
Koch Nitrogen Company, LLC

Black & Veatch provided engineering and procurement services to Koch Nitrogen Company, LLC for two ammonia plant expansions as well as utility and infrastructure improvements as part of a $1.3 billion expansion of its Enid, Oklahoma facility. The project increased urea and ammonia production at the facility by more than one million tons a year. The facility is one of the largest producers of fertilizer in North America.

As part of the expansion project, Black & Veatch was responsible for granular urea storage, loadout and water treatment upgrades, two new electric substations and power interconnections.

Black & Veatch began working with Koch Nitrogen in 2012 on conceptual design of the expansion. Black & Veatch prepared preliminary process designs, performed process technical evaluations of prospective ammonia and urea equipment suppliers, and provided Front End Engineering Design (FEED), including a definitive cost estimate for the overall project. Detailed engineering and procurement of the project began in 2014 and was implemented over a three-year period.
